About

Betsy Gunter- Dog Trainer/Behaviorist

Betsy began her career training dogs in Los Angeles in 2013 when she adopted her rescue dog Opie who had many behavioral issues. Betsy was determined to help Opie become a more balanced dog and resolve his behavioral issues. After having years of experience in various dog industries, her passion for helping people and dogs led her to a career in dog training and behavior.

Early in her career, Betsy sought the help and guidance of world-renowned dog behaviorist Cheri Lucas who she mentored under closely over many years through private shadow programs and various workshops. Cheri Lucas was trained in dog psychology and effective dog leadership by Cesar Millan many years ago. Cheri developed and founded the intensive training program for professional dog trainers, Training Cesar’s Way™. Cheri Lucas has since developed her own methods that are gentle, intuitive and effective, teaching dog owners to unleash the strong, assertive leader inside of them. Betsy follows these methods and is considered to be Cheri’s protégé. Betsy also assists Cheri with her workshops training other trainers and dog owners at her ranch in CA and at various locations around the country.

In addition to mentoring under Cheri Lucas, she is a current member of the IACP and has a training certification through Animal Behavior College. She has also attended Wendy Volhard’s Healthy Dog Conference, The Jentle Method workshops with Oregon Tails, and has mentored under Brian Agnew as well. Betsy is always seeking to continue her education through attending seminars, workshops, and networking with other trainers and behaviorists.

Betsy has a heart for rescue and really enjoys setting up owners for success and keeping dogs in their homes. During her time in LA, she worked with many different rescue organizations and various programs helping to educate the public including Forte Animal Rescue, Frankie Lola and Friends, and Paws for Life Prison Program. Since moving to Dallas in late 2022, in addition to having her own business training, she also trains with Dogfit Dallas and continues to help various rescues locally.

Over the years Betsy has helped many dogs and their owners create happy, healthy relationships and achieve their training goals. She enjoys working with challenging cases and really believes that every dog and owner have their own unique set of circumstances and tailors the training to their individual needs and goals.
